Suspended IPS officer who is accused in several encounter cases has resigned from his job and sent a ten page resignation letter to the state government.
It is not clear that who drafted this resignation letter. Such a good English without a mistake of even comma is definitely not a singular job of Mr. Vanzara. His lawyer was seen on TV saying that even he was unaware about this letter and came to know about it only through the media.
Vanzara was among the first to be arrested in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case. He was later arrested in Ishrat Jahan encounter case.
In June the Mumbai court issued orders to shift Vanzara to Ahmedabad jail following the order of the Ahmedabad CBI court to grant his custody to the investigating agency in the Ishrat Jahan case. Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) of the CBI court had granted permission for Vanzara’s arrest in Ishrat case on an application filed by investigating officer of the case and CBI DySP G Kalaimani.
CBI arrested Vanzara from Sabarmati Central Jail where he was already behind bars as an accused in the fake encounter cases of Sohrabuddin Sheikh and Tulsi Prajapati.
The CBI officials interrogated Vanzara and filed an application before the concerned court on June 10 in which the agency clearly stated that it had completed questioning Vanzara in the Ishrat case and that he should be sent back to the Mumbai jail.
But later in August this year in a surprising move, the CBI moved another application before the CBI court in which it sought interrogation of Vanzara in judicial custody.
The agency in its application also asked for permission to question him whenever needed.
The agency also sought permission to grill two other arrested cops -deputy superintendent of police Tarun Barot and retired DSP J G Parmar. The court granted this plea. Not just that, Barot and Parmar also expressed their willingness before the court to be questioned by CBI.It is believed that the CBI team filed such application after positive signals from Vanzara side.
CBI put aside Ishrat case investigative officer DySP G Kalaimani and fielded Deputy Inspector General(DIG) Abhin Modak to question Vanzara. Abhin Dinesh Modak, IPS, DIG, CBI, SCB, Mumbai has been recently awarded Police medal for meritorious service. Abhin Modak is a person who probed Adarsh Housing scam.
Thus after June, Vanzara was questioned again in August, this time by Abhin Modak. Media persons were told that Vanzara was “cooperative” during questioning.
Vanzara is in jail for last seven years, while IPS Girish Singhal, former PI Bharat Patel who “cooperated” with CBI are released on jail.
