Gujarat govt hikes rates of daily travel allowances of ministers

Japan K Pathak, Gandhinagar: Gujarat government has revised the rules and rates of daily allowance to ministers for halt during their travels.

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 14 of the Gujarat Minister’s Salaries and Allowances Act, 1960 (Gujarat Act No. VI of 1960), the Government of Gujarat has through on 25 February made changes in the Gujarat Minister’s Traveling Allowances Rules, 1983. The new rules are called the Gujarat Minister’s Traveling Allowances (Amendment) Rules, 2025 and they shall be deemed to have come into force on 08th November, 2024. As this notification is made effective from the 8th November, 2024, the Ministers shall be eligible to the amount of arrears for the bills already preferred by them with old rates.

The rate of daily allowance for halt at place other than a hotel or lodge for ministers shall be Rs. 1,000 for X, Rs. 800 for Y and Rs. 500 for Z category cities. Previously as oper the 1983 rule, the rate for A class cities (Ahmedabad, Banglore, Calcutta, Delhi, Greater Bombay, Hyderabad, Kanpur, Madras and Pune) was Rs. 48, for B-1 class cities (Coimbatore, Indore, Jaipur, Lucknow, Madurai, Nagpur, Patna, Surat) was Rs. 42, while for all places other than A and B-1 class cities the rate was Rs. 30.

For halts at a hotel or a lodge or such other establishment, providing boarding and lodging, the newly introduced daily allowances shall be admissible at the rates of Rs. 2600 for X, Rs. 2100 for Y and Rs. 1300 for Z category cities. Previously as per the 1983 rule, the rate was Rs. 90 per day for A class cities, Rs. 72/day for B-1 class cities and Rs. 63 per day for places other than A and B-1 class cities.
